4. Performance by Region

Sales in Japan were severely affected by stagnating personal consumption. In North America, sales increased, thanks to favorable performances of Relaxing Fragrance and newly introduced makeup products. Sales in Europe rose due to steadly expanding revenues of our sales subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, and France. Despite concern about the effects of economic crises in various Asian nations, sales in Asia and Oceania were up owing to higher sales in China and Oceania.
